Wallsync

simplify the workflow, improve usability and make it a joy to use

Wallsync
Challange

With WallSync users can take pictures of hand written post-it notes. The app digitises and categorises the notes and syncs them with programs like Jira or Trello.

Users liked the overall idea, but didn’t feel the app would be intuitive enough or save sufficient time.

My role within this project was conducting interviews and user testing and producing artefacts like a persona, customer journey mapping, user flows, affinity map, feature prioritisation matrix.

Approach

I visited 9 users at their workplaces to get insights into how they really work and to understand their needs.

The scope of the research was expanded from Scrum Masters to UX Designers and Product Owners to see how they would be able to make use of it. Further user tests allowed us to get feedback for usability improvements.

01. Competitor Analysis

We each looked into competitors of Wallsync and see where it fits in the market. Wallsync’s competitive advantage was the app’s powerful OCR technology which allowed the post-its to be transferred into Jira or Trello.

02. Interviews & User Testing

The research processed  showed the client wasn’t sure who the product is being designed for and where it fits in. There was a misalignment between users’ perceptions of the apps purpose and the actual situations the app would be useful which resulted in problems in attracting and retaining users.

Moreover, there was a difference in how the users expected the app to work and how it actually worked.

From the kick off meeting, how the product was designed and interviews, it could be seen that the app’s primary persona was a scrum master. An affinity map revealed insights into the needs of a scrum master persona and those working in an agile work environment.

03. Outcome

The prototype included voice recording to improve efficiency in taking notes to put into Jira.

From user feedback on the current app, and testing of a prototype all 3 of us wrote down features that we believe would benefit the app and put them on a feature prioritization matrix. The developer then added his input.

A few features proposed during the project have already been developed and the app was put on Product Hunt.
